James Delingpole of the Spectator has some advice for young British Conservatives:
So my job is to try to give the conservative political class of tomorrow the backbone the conservative political class of today is so sorely lacking. Key to this is helping them to understand that “Progressive Conservatism” is an oxymoron, and that the “Compassionate” in “Compassionate Conservatism” is a redundancy.

Conservatism does not need to prettify itself by adopting all-women shortlists or forcing its MPs to spend a Saturday afternoon painting the walls in the new drug rehabilitation centre or claim that a creaking, top-heavy, grotesquely inefficient state healthcare system introduced in the era of rationing and be-grateful-for-what-you-get represents the three most important letters in your ideologically bankrupt salesman’s fantasy world or cosying up to charlatans like th...
National Citizens Coalition
Instead of fixing the job crisis as it promised in yesterday’s Throne Speech, the Harper government appears to be coasting on last year’s stimulus budget, offering no meaningful new initiatives to get Canadians working again.
Today’s budget measures are a good step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to put [...]
Ron Danderfer, who oversaw the province’s now $222-million eHealth initiative, is accused of allegedly demanding or accepting accommodation at a Kelowna condominium, along with income for his wife and potential post-retirement income for himself, in exchange for influencing government contracts and business to medical consultant Dr. Jonathan Burns. From the New Brunswick Right to Life e-mail release: Dear Pro-Life Supporters,

Did you know that the majority of women making the “choice” to have an abortion are university aged?
Did you know that the majority of students on campus consider themselves to be “pro-choice”?
Did you know that the National Campus Life Network has established a Maritime Director to educate, network and support the post-secondary pro-life students right here in your community?

My name is Sara Hall and I have the great opportunity of building a Culture of Life here in the Maritimes with your help. I am working to maximize the promotion and effectiveness of the pro-life message on campuses in the Maritimes, while minimizing the excess work for busy students.

Nowhere is there a greater urgency for the pro-life message than on the university campus. The university is the place where t...

‘S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, March 1, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Hundreds of homosexual activists flocked to Mass at St. John’s Cathedral in ’s-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) on Sunday to challenge the bishop for his support of a priest in Reusel who denied Communion to an openly practicing homosexual.

The protesters joined the Mass wearing pink triangles, and some came dressed in pink wigs and gowns.  Most of the throng walked out, shouting and singing, during the homily, which was given by Fr. Geertjan van Rossem.

“Homosexuals are welcome in the church. But we ask practising homosexuals not to take part in communion out of respect for the sacrament,” he said, according to DutchNews.nl.

Anticipating the protest, the diocese announced that Communion would not be distributed.  In his homily, Fr. van Rossem explained that he was “compelle...

13 year-old Lia Mills, the same teenage girl who wrote a bold and well-argumented speech against abortion about a year ago, speaks up against euthanasia.

H/t Life Site News
Mere "well said" is not enough to describe this great speech. It's just amazing how many arguments Lia manages to squeeze in a less than 5-minute presentation.

Lia's last year's speech actually led to a baby's life being saved. (And that baby is just the one we know of.) Hopefully, her speech on euthanasia too makes a difference and helps all of us to make sure that euthanasia, assisted suicide and other types of intentional actions aimed at killing the patient instead of helping him,...

SASKATOON — Saying there is a difference between criticizing homosexual acts and condemning gay people themselves, Saskatchewan’s top court has overturned a human rights tribunal decision against a religious activist who distributed anti-gay pamphlets….(Source)

This is good news for free speech.  If these kangaroo kourts had won the day, it would set a bad precedent for the right to criticize, which is at the very foundation of the democratic state.

Yet another verdict of a freedom-snatching committee has been overturned by the court of law: REGINA, March 1, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Saskatchewan's Court of Appeal has ruled that an anti-homosexaulity activist did not violate the province's human rights code by publicly criticizing homosexuality through a series of flyers he distributed in Saskatoon and Regina in 2001 and 2002.
...
In her decision in Whatcott v. Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal et al., released February 25, Justice Darla Hunter ruled that Whatcott did not violate section 14(1)(b) of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code by distributing flyers to oppose the teaching of homosexuality in Saskatoon’s public schools.

The court overturned the 2006 Saskatchewan Human Rights Tribunal ruling that ordered Mr. Whatcott to pay $17,500 to the complainants, to compensate for "loss of their dignity, self-respect and hurt feelings," and imposed a "lifetime" ban on his freedom to publicly criticize homosexuali...

Concern was expressed at the time of last year’s Share Lent collection that CCODP partners were promoting abortion and contraception.

Because of this, Archbishop Prendergast noted, “the bishops agreed there would be a collection this year while the bishops were working on reflecting with them on the Pope’s latest social justice encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, and addressing the concerns that had surfaced.”

He said the committee must be allowed to do its work and the bishops must not send any mixed signals about their unconditional support for this year’s collection, but the agency must distance itself from any partners whose abortion advocacy “clearly gives mixed witness because we are associated with them.”

CCODP executive director Michael Casey was upbeat about the future of the organization.

A campaign to bring relief to Haiti after that country’s devastating earthquake was highly successful, ra...

PETERBOROUGH, ON, February 22, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A third Canadian bishop has announced restrictions on funding to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P).

Peterborough Bishop Nicola De Angelis has announced that in addition to withholding a nominal amount (10%) from the 2009 Lenten collection from D&P, he has instituted an option on the 2010 collection allowing Catholics to decide against funding D&P.

The Bishop has instructed parishes in the diocese to use Lenten collection envelopes which give parishioners the option to select that their funds go to either “Development & Peace” or “Other Charities.”

Previously the collection was taken up specifically ...
