Keith Olbermann thanks Bush for the Iraq war
Keith Olbermann of MSNBC thanks Bush in a fitting manner. But why Barack Obama did not do the same in his speech on August 31st? It looks Keith Olbermann understands Bush much better than Obama.

Social democrats need to take social democracy seriously Part I
I was just inspired by Marc Lee over a the PEF to deliver an overdue promise. Here is the background. Originally posted on February 17, 2010 Part I It is not exactly a secret that social democracy, at least in North America, has fallen on hard times. Stephen Harper on Guns and Cars
Under Stephen Harper’s regime, car and other vehicles are required to be registered as they should be but guns are something to be admired and need no registry. What does Harper and his minions know that law enforcement officials, RCMP and other police forces around the country, don’t? Law enforcement officials want the gun registry. The gun registry is considered very helpful, according to these law enforcement officials, to control crimes committed using guns. The ignorance of the Harper regime has hit new heights.
Manitoba Lawyer Jack King

In 2003, Mr. King was made aware that Mr. Chapman claimed to have been offended by comments made in discussions between Mr. King and Mr. Chapman. The complaint came as a surprise to Mr. King as Mr. Chapman had never suggested to him that the discussions caused him any discomfort. Mr. Chapman through legal counsel demanded a sum of money to resolve his complaint. Mr. King through his legal counsel apologized to Mr. Chapman for any offence that Mr. King may have caused. A settlement was achieved between Mr. Chapman and Mr. King. As part of that settlement, Mr. Chapman agreed to return all documents sent by Mr....

Why do Lib bloggers hold democracy in such contempt?
Ok, this is partisan but not really. I thought it was really silly when Harper shut down parliament two times in order to disrupt the political process and not merely because the legislative mission had been accomplished earlier than expected (political scientists will get what I am saying here). As long as I have taught [...]

Think I'll buy me a football team
Money get back

Money it's a hit
But don't give me that do goody good bullshit

Miracle of Baby survival
Parents of a premature baby boy are told by the doctors that the baby cannot survive. So parents are ready to say goodbye and then the mother’s touch makes the baby to start reviving itself and ultimately survive. It is an amazing story that science cannot fully explain. This is one great example of how deep the mysteries of life are. It is the non-physical side of humans and other living-beings in general which is absolutely astounding.

The nature of democracy in Iraq
Huffington Post.We are told that war has ended in Iraq. It has not. US combat troops might have left but there are still more than 50,000 troops and according to some estimates close to 100,000 mercenaries, in Iraq, all paid by the US taxpayers. Moreover Bush and Cheney were supposed to bring democracy to Iraq, instead corruption is in abundance and US operatives and mercenaries are very much party to it.
Here is a gripping story on the Huffington Post site about such corruption.

The Universe we live in
There was a fascinating documentary on the Discovery Channel over the weekend on the birth and death of stars and the universe. When we think we know it all something new comes on the horizon. What a vast and complex universe we live in. Some of these stars are manifolds bigger than our sun. Humans have a life span of a few decades compared to these stars which have been around for billions of years and maybe there are billions and trillions years more before some die and even the universe may die.
Our solar system is the same way. The sun may die someday and with its death will die all the planets surrounding it including earth. But don’t worry, it will be billions of years before that happens. However, humans are capable of ending life on our planet earth long before that. Every time a big star dies it could lead to new solar systems and life. Fascinating. For me the mystery of life thickens.

Hugh Hefner Movie
Hugh Hefner Movie trailer.
This was on CTV evening news, according to them this is a well-done movie. I don’t read playboy but I like Hugh Heffner because he is what he says he is. He is not a hypocrite. All these so-called family people and evangelists will love to visit the playboy mansion and then come out and continue to preach their hypocrisy. Here are some hypocrites in politics:
Larry Craig
John Ensign
John Edwards
Mark Foley
Eliot Spitzer
David Vitter
And then there are the Glenn Becks, Rush Limbaughs and Franklin Grahams of this world who in the name of religion and virtue spread hatred.

For most Canadians today, Labour Day is the last gasp of summer fun: the final long weekend before returning to the everyday routine of work or school. But over its century-long history, there was much more to the September holiday than just having a day off.In The Workers' Festival, Craig Heron and Steve Penfold examine the complicated history of Labour Day from its origins as a spectacle of skilled workers in the 1880s through its declaration as a national statutory holiday in 1894 to its reinvention through the twentieth century.
The holiday's inventors hoped to blend labour solidarity, community celebration, a...
Beck, Palin, and the Desescration of History

Political Affairs
There is a very old saying, attributed to Voltaire, that "history is a pack of tricks played on the dead." That should be applied directly to the "rally" being held in Washington on the 47th anniversary of the most significant rally ever held in the nation's capital---the 1963 March on Washington.
The March on Washington was not about religion, although Martin Luther King was a Christian minister who used Christian religious themes to advance progressive humanist values and policies--values and poli...

Glenn Beck: Summary of the speech at the Lincoln Memorial

Huffington Post has this interesting picture and story on Obama.

He is ending the war in Iraq and leaving behind a shattered country and escalating the war in Afghanistan. Does he really expect to win in Afghanistan? Surely both wars can be blamed on Bush era but this escalation in Afghanistan gives total ownership to Obama. It looks a quagmire to me with no satisfactory end in sight. Read the full story here.
