With capitol letters, the quote is incorrect. Without capitol letters, the quote is taken out of context. Disraeli was a Conservative. From Wikipedia, "Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield, KG, PC, FRS, (21 December 1804 – 19 April 1881) was a British Prime Minister, parliamentarian, Conservative statesman and literary figure. He served in government for three decades, twice as Prime Minister. A teenage convert to Anglicanism, he was nonetheless the country's first and thus far only Prime Minister of Jewish heritage.[1] He played an instrumental role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party after the Corn Laws schism of 1846." Come on Ardvark! Comparing absolute number ignores TIME GOVERNED: JC at more than 10 years and harper at less than 4 means JC has worked hardest. It also ignores the TIME PROROGUED: Harper's 2 total more days prorogued than JC's 4, and in way less than half the time. Finally, it ignores the REASON for the proroguation: JC, for it's purpose - to allow an election or leadership race. Harper, for no legitimate government purpose - avoiding a non-confidence vote, then avoiding scrutiny of parliamentary committees. When you compare apples to apples, it is obvious that Harper is abusing the system for selfish benefit and to the detriment of all Canadians and even his own government's agenda. He should be ashamed, and you should be too. Lawtalkinggguy The Prorogue Score. 45 days
Regular sites such http://www.ourcanada.tk, have also now sprung up, and serve as busy places where information and resources are collected and shared by those who do not use Facebook, or wish to remain more private about their politics. Years of lies and deceit appear to have caught up to Harper and his 'team', and now members are sharing videos of Afghan abuse testimony, detainee abuse reports, a Parliamentary Report condemning the Harper regime, Harper's angry 'alert' to Canadians, and much more. An impressive archive of Canadian media pertaining to Harper's attacks on democracy is perhaps the largest and most comprehensive available on-line. ourcanada.tk maintains a steadily increasing stream of 10-25 visitors/hour from around the world and is growing. It fitting that in one of our Nation's darkest hours, a movement has begun that is truly historical in nature, and remarkable by design. Fueled by the ire of 200,000 connected members - it is also quite possibly this regime's worst nightmare, and the rebirth of Canadian democracy. I submit that THIS is the real reason for prorogation at this time. Mr. Harper feels he can push on with government by decree/Order in Council/bureaucracy administration, and sidestep the messy 'noise from Parliament', an institution whose value he does not understand. My view is that this government still had most of its agenda on the Order Paper, and did not seriously try to complete the agenda. I would, therefore, expect that Harper has deemed the balance of the legislative agenda as not being worth the trouble and will not try to reintroduce it. Otherwise, he has wasted the work of the House for the past year. Much of that agenda has not seriously been taken up in committee, so he cannot fall back on claims of "Opposition obstructionism". To quote a recent news story; “John Mason, president of the Scarborough-Guildwood federal Conservative association, said the government just wants to concentrate on its Economic Action Plan and budget ‘without all this noise from Parliament.’” (Scarborough Mirror, January 7, 2010) SmokyMark The Prorogue Score. 59 days
Your statistics are misleading, as most stats are... Here's another view: In the past 25 years (1984-2009), there have been 18 prorogations through 8 Parliaments. The shortest session on record in that period is 2 weeks (Harper, 2008), while the longest at 28 months belongs to Brian Mulroney. Harper has prorogued twice and ended a parliament once (election Oct 15 2008) in little more than 3 1/2 years in office. Chretien held office for 10 years, through 3 elections and a transition to a new PM (Paul Martin). Mulroney held office for 8 1/2 years before turning the reins over to Kim Campbell. Trudeau was PM for 13 years, with both majority and minority governments. He did NOT become PM until April 1968. I have been talking with Rick Anderson on this subject, and we agree that prorogation is generally used to refresh a government agenda when it has come to its end. 5. If this law ever gets enacted and I end up being pulled over and ordered to take a sobriety test for no reason, I'll be the first to take their asses to court. 4. The feds are talking about finger-printing people before they're formally charged with a crime. Now this lunacy of implementing random breathalyzer checks on the law-abiding. How long before we're stopped in the street by the authorities demanding to see our "papers"? I don't believe the statistics that show this program is saving lives, any more than I believe that heroin shooting galleries are a benefit to society. It's easy to fudge the figures if you want to show a gain. Does anyone actually believe the over-all crime rate has dropped? The street gangs must have a good laugh over that one. The purpose of these policing laws isn't to make the streets or neighborhoods safer. One only has to look at the number of high-risk offenders routinely let loose in society to realize that the "criminal justice" system is just that. Not justice for the victim, but justice for the criminal. Wilde Random Breathalyzer Tests in Canada? 84 days
3. Many of the sentences handed out are for serious driving infractions, including hit and run, yet much of the sentencing is conditional or probational, amounting to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Recently, there was a court case involving a driver charged with the death of a person who he had run down with his vehicle. The driver was acquitted of the charge due to the fact the police had pressured him into taking a breathalyzer test, which the court stated was a breach of his constitutional rights. Police said they were going to have to "re-educate" their officers on what the judiciary will or will not allow as a defense in court. This case demonstrates that the Charter supersedes the Motor Vehicle Act and that police often perform their duties unaware they in fact are the ones breaking the law by contravening human rights. Wilde Random Breathalyzer Tests in Canada? 84 days
2. The job of the police is to uphold the law, acting upon the knowledge that a crime has taken place, or the suspicion that one will. If they want to catch criminals, why don't they stake-out the bars and clubs where most of the boozers frequent instead of harassing everyone? At least that would give them some justification for their actions. They attempt to justify the road blocks by showing stats of drunks and other offenders they catch in these traps, but how can they say for certain these drivers would have been involved in an accident or other offense if they hadn't been stopped? What you never hear is how many of those caught are repeat offenders. My guess would be at least 50%. It's not uncommon to hear of a drunk or unlicensed driver being arrested who has 50 or more convictions. Jails have a revolving door these days and the idea is to keep them spinning. It's a highly profitable business if you have a vested interest. Wilde Random Breathalyzer Tests in Canada? 84 days
1. If a cop stops you at a road-check, to me that in itself is a violation of a citizen's right to the presumption of innocence. The officer would have to suspect you had already committed a crime or they wouldn't be pulling you over in the first place. I believe the police are also guilty of an unlawful search when they demand proof of identity even though there's no evidence of a crime being committed or intended. Last year I was stopped at a road-check and the officer asked to see my driver's license. When I inquired as to whether I had committed an offense, the constable replied, "Well, you might have." Might have? Sounds like a page right out of "Minority Report". Wilde Random Breathalyzer Tests in Canada? 84 days
You're article is right on. We are looking at getting our kids out of this politically correct, bleeding heart,union/government run, special interest driven school system. I can heardly take what I see in my kids school.Very liitle respect for anyone, muticulturism running rampit even when the vast majority of us are still white Christian based ,and the complete feminization of boys. The teachers only care about themselves. Our kids EAT ON THE GYM FLOOR,their washrooms are filthy and my kids in grade 5 and 7 don't like going there already at their young ages. Since it's a government run entity nothing will change so we make the change ourselves; we'll take them out. Nwind Independent Schools - Education With A Value System 97 days
I say f-- the Muslims until they start to speak up and integrate into our society. I completely understand most of them are very good people but until we see you speak against these Islamic fundamentalist pukes that want to see all of us die and follow their wonderful rules then you folks deserve what will come if there is another attack. Having our kids later in life I'm stunned at what you say is happening and it's true.I see especially in Toronto the catering to everyone but those who built our Country. You know us white Christians who by the way are still BY FAR the biggest segment of society. You have no idea what it's like to work for CN as a locomotive engineer. You also have no idea what great lengths the TCRC goes through to protect its members. Harrasment from CN officials to TCRC members occurs daily. This strike is not about money, it's about safety issues and quality of life. The men and women of the TCRC are the hardest working people I know. CN forced the strike on the TCRC by implementing a contract effective 00:01 Novemebr 28th. Needless to say the contract was unsatisfactory. Safety and quality of life reasons were not adressed thus resulting in a walkout. medwid55 Kudos to our Labour Minister, the Hon.Rona Ambrose 99 days

Not that the Taliban weren't being "violent" to anyone not towing they're extremist Islamic code of conduct? They even blew up Buddha, a real Peacenic.
